Education
I have a degree in Musical Theatre, but my work as a musician started long before my training as an actor. I come from a musical family and my father, brother and I spent countless hours playing and singing together as I was growing up. My experience began on the drums and then transitioned to guitar, which I have now played for 30 years. I also play bass, mandolin, ukulele, cajon, and clarinet.
Professional Experience
I have worked many theatre shows as an actor-musician, which has been the bulk of my 20-year professional career. I have also been the leader and songwriter for an original Honky-Tonk band called Ben Hope & the Uptown Outfit. Our debut album Ragged and Rowdy is available across all platforms.
Skills
My skills on the guitar would be qualified as expert, although no guitar player ever truly feels this way. There is always more to learn and always something you feel like you can't do. I'm happy to continue to learn and grow. Other skills that come in handy are those of leadership, communication, planning, organizing, and dedication. An underrated skill that I possess is the ability to have ideas and make them a reality. I relish opportunities to turn good ideas into great experiences.
